A loan in your name: how fraudsters take it out, how to check and what to do
Fraud schemes, free checks in the NBU Credit Register and credit bureaus, five steps if a loan has already been taken out, and the status of the self-ban.
A credit history is the record of all your loans and how you repaid them, kept by credit bureaus and the NBU Credit Register.
A credit history records the loans you have taken, the amounts, the terms and whether you paid on time. In Ukraine it is kept by private credit bureaus and the National Bank's Credit Register. Banks and lenders check it when deciding whether to lend to you and at what rate.
Check your credit history at least once a year: that way you can spot a loan fraudsters took out in your name, or an error that blocks a loan. Each bureau must provide you with a free report once a year.
Late payments damage your credit history; loans repaid on time improve it.
