Deposit Guarantee Fund: what it means

The Deposit Guarantee Fund is the Ukrainian state body that repays depositors if their bank is declared insolvent.

The Individual Deposit Guarantee Fund is a Ukrainian state institution that pays depositors back if a bank is withdrawn from the market. All Ukrainian banks are members of the Fund and pay contributions to it.

For the period of martial law, the Fund guarantees deposits in full. Three months after martial law ends, the guaranteed amount will be UAH 600,000 per depositor per bank, including accrued interest.

If your savings exceed the guaranteed amount, after martial law it makes sense to spread them across several banks or keep part in government bonds, which the Fund does not cover but which are backed by the state as the borrower.
