Government bonds (OVDP): what it means

OVDP are Ukrainian domestic government bonds: you lend money to the state at a fixed rate for a set term.

OVDP, Ukraine's domestic government bonds, are debt securities issued by the Ministry of Finance. When you buy OVDP, you lend money to the state, which repays the face value on a set date and pays interest.

The face value of one bond is UAH 1,000, so you can start with a small amount. You can buy OVDP in many banking apps, in the Diia app or through a broker.

  • How they differ from a deposit: interest on OVDP is exempt from personal income tax and the military levy, and repayment is backed by the state rather than a bank.
  • Limitation: you can sell a bond before maturity, but the price depends on the market, so invest money for a term you are prepared to wait.
